Tried & Tested... Liquid Foundations
مايو 29, 2014
Choosing a foundation can be a nightmare when you're not sure what to look for and the bright lights of the beauty hall certainly don't make it any easier!
This week our guest blogger, makeup artist Natalie James, has selected her top 5 tried and tested liquid foundations.
Natalie's Top Tips for foundations:
- colour match to your skin tone exactly (not simply ballpark)
- wear it for a while before you invest
This fabulous foundation boasts the light reflecting properties of its older cousin, the best selling Touche Éclat pen. It has the most beautiful texture and glides on easilyleaving my skin with a hint of dewiness whilst blurring imperfections along the way. YSL say it targets 'shadowy areas' of the face (which it does). Blend with your fingertips for best results, starting with the t-zone and blending outwards.
A step up from the YSL but unparalleled in texture and weightlessness. Like the YSL, Chantecaille Future Skin is an oil-free gel foundation with the texture of whipped cream. Made using the best of Japanese skincare technology, this foundation is packed with green tea (antioxidant) and charged water (to boost hydration). It also contains seaweed which balances an oily t-zone over time. Wear it as a sheer veil or layer for extra coverage. A cult foundation amongst makeup artists and celebrities alike, this is definitely one for your Christmas/Birthday gift list!
Similarly light reflecting and lightweight, the Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua has an ultra fine texture that's effortless to apply. Its formula is enriched with a mineral sunscreen (SPF15) making it a good one for every day. My only gripe is that the shade range can be a bit yellow if you have more of a peach/pink toned skin.
I generally favour foundations at the higher end of the price spectrum, but this is a great 'drug store' dupe. My younger sister has been wearing the older version of this (Infallible 16H) for about 10 years and swears by it for coverage and velvety finish. I can attest because I've seen her wear it and it always gives her a polished look.
Last but definitely not least is Armani's Luminous Silk foundation, perfect for those seeking the luminosity of a dewy foundation but with more of a matte finish. Developed by the extraordinary makeup talent of
Pat McGrath, this foundation delivers a silky texture combined with long lasting coverage. Less is more with this one and if your skin is on the dry side make sure you moisturise at least 5 minutes prior to application.
