Dress for Your Shape AW18

Every body shape has different needs when it comes to dressing, yet most women don’t understand how to flatter their body shape. Here at Libby HQ, we focus on functionality and style and have outfits for every body shape. We have compiled this guide to help you look your best in our AW18 collection!

Apple

The apple-shaped body, also known as an inverted triangle, is where your body is 'top heavy'. Apples are characterised by broad shoulders, a full bust, narrower hips and a less defined waist. The aim when dressing an apple-shape is to visually reduce the top half of the body by drawing attention to the lower half of the body. Celebrities such as Oprah Winfrey, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Angelina Jolie have apple body shapes.

The Tennyson A-line dress.

Pear

The most common body shape among women is the pear. If you are a pear shape, the widest part of your body is your hips and thighs, hence why it is also referred to as a ‘triangle’ body shape. The goal when dressing the pear shape is to emphasize the waist and arms. Celebrities like Rihanna, Beyoncé and Jennifer Lopez have pear shaped bodies.

The versatile Bayswater dress is good for day, night, summer or winter. In colder weather, Bayswater looks chic layered over our Ivory long sleeve Beaulieu silk shirt.  Sign up to our email alerts to be the first to know when our Grey Wool Bayswater dress is available to purchase.

Our bestselling Lewis dress.

The Kendle culottes and Beaulieu silk skirt are the perfect combination for a pear shaped body.

Hourglass

The hourglass figure is considered the ideal body type by many women. Women with this body type tend to have the same sized bust and hips and a narrower waist. When dressing an hourglass figure, the aim is to reduce boxiness and accentuate the narrow waist with form fitting fabric. Celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Marilyn Monroe and Dita Von Teese have hourglass bodies.

All our snug, tailored yet stretchy pencil dresses, such as Hamilton nip in at the waist and hug your curves which is perfect for the hourglass figure.

Dartmouth and Sackville have low necklines which slim down your bust, keeping it looking balanced. Low necklines also draw the eye closer to your narrow waist.

Pair our Whistler blouse (coming soon- sign up to our mailing list to be the first to hear when it is released) with our Suzy pencil skirt from our Mix and Match tailoring collection to show off your hourglass curves whilst still maintaining professional.

Rectangle

If you have a Rectangle body shape then it means that your silhouette is fairly straight up and down, also known as a ‘banana’. With a rectangle, there is no main area you need to minimise, however, you may want to create the illusion of curves to avoid looking boyish. Celebrities such as Ann Hathaway, Kate Middleton and Gwyneth Paltrow are great icons to follow with this body shape.

Our first ever jumpsuit, Cooper, provides effortless style and draws attention to your waist, minimising the rectangle appearance.

The Oxford dress is a modern interpretation of the pencil dress and a chic alternative to a suit.

The Cadogan blouse is a feminine and versatile staple from our AW18 collection.

Our Finsbury jacket and Savoy trousers are both from our Mix and Match Tailoring collection, and are the perfect combination if you have a rectangle body shape.
