Morning Routines of 3 Successful Women & How to Create the Right Routine for You

Mornings. Like Marmite, you either love them or hate them. We all know that successful people have amazing morning routines to ensure their days run smoothly and efficiently. What is it that successful people do differently in the morning? People tend to accomplish a lot like exercise and undertaking tasks that set them up for success before they reach the office for 9 am. Below are three-morning routines of very established and successful businesswomen.

Arianna Huffington

Founder of The Huffington Post and Thrive Global

Morning routine
“A big part of my morning ritual is about what I don’t do: When I wake up, I don’t start the day by looking at my smartphone. Instead, once I’m awake, I take a minute to breathe deeply, be grateful, and set my intention for the day.”

Anna Wintour
Editor in chief of Vogue

Morning routine
Every morning at 5:45 a.m., Anna Wintour arrives at New York’s Midtown Tennis Club for one hour of tennis. Then it’s a quick primping process at home before the editor in chief goes to her office at One World Trade Centre to take on endless set of meetings and other events.

Juliet De Baubigny

Partner at Kleiner Perkins

Morning routine
Every morning starts at 5:30-6am as she quickly scans her emails before she prioritises some exercise. “If I can work out each day, I’m a really happy person. Either doing Tracy Anderson Method Perfect Design DVD or has a trainer come to her house.

Here are 5 actions one can practice, to create the perfect morning routine.

  1. Wake Up Early

According to author and writer Laura Vanderkam, 90% of executives wake up before

6 am on weekdays. By waking up early, you can get an edge on the day ahead. You’ll clear your mind and schedule so that you can focus on your work, which will help you reach daily goals faster.

  1. Exercise

The phrase “healthy body, healthy mind”, is one we know all too well. It is important to carve out time for physical exercise in your day or week. Working out first thing in the morning is popular with many successful individuals. Simple exercises like a brisk walk, run or bike ride helps get your body moving for the day ahead.

  1. Have an energy-packed breakfast

Rushing out the door on coffee and an empty stomach is no way to start the day. Taking time in the morning to fuel your body, will help your day more than you now. Having a healthy breakfast allows your mind to focus on what’s important and not an empty stomach. Things like eggs, oats, and fruit are excellent to fill you up!

  1. Make Your Day Top Heavy

It’s always best to get the hard stuff out of the way first thing. Prioritizing your day by making it top-heavy, ensures that the troublesome tasks do not loom over you. The morning is when we are most rested with strong energy levels. This enables you to conquer the least desirable jobs first.

  1. Visualisation

Taking time to visualise and plan the day ahead of you, will set you up for success. Nowadays we often tend to overlook our mental health. Making space for some quiet time inside your mind will help improve your mood and outlook in your professional life.
